SERVICES
PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy is as much about pinpointing a problem as it is about healing it. Our professionals will spend a good deal of time talking to you, measuring your strength, testing your ability to do certain tasks, and reading the biomechanical signs and symptoms you are displaying to determine exactly what is wrong. Once they are sure of the problem, they will design a treatment plan tailored to you. It will help reduce pain, increase your strength, and give your body the help it needs to heal quickly and properly. Physiotherapy helps with conditions such as back and neck pain, muscle damage, sciatica, arthritis, osteoporosis, bursitis, tendonitis, pre and post surgery rehab, pre and post natal rehabilitation, rehabilitation after a motor vehicle accident, and much more. Some of the services and techniques we use are ART (Active Release Technique), neurofunctional medical acupuncture, fascial movement taping/performance taping (Leukotape, SpiderTech, Rocktape), concussion assessment and treatment, custom bracing, ergonomic assessment, mulligan mobilizations, injury rehabilitation/performance optimization, physical therapy, and functional movement screening (FMS, SFMA) for athletes. As a result of physiotherapy treatment, you'll be able to enjoy an improved overall lifestyle. Your physical well-being will improve, your ability to participate in the sports you love will be restored and you'll have the freedom to once again take part in your day-to-day activities free of pain and discomfort. |

ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture originates from China. It is the process of inserting needles into various points of the body and manipulating them in such a way to relieve pain and other therapeutic services. Acupuncture is commonly used to reduce pain and inflammation, increase blood circulation and to stimulate the muscles for increased natural healing ability. This ancient Chinese practice has become one of the integral stepping stones of our rehabilitation and recovery plan. At Health and Rehab Research Clinic acupuncture is used in conjunction with physiotherapy and massage therapy to improve our patients' overall health and well-being. Acupuncture has been proven to to be effective in the treatment of the following conditions: joint pain, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, insomnia, swelling, sprains, strains, and neurological and muscular disorders. |
CHIROPRACTIC CARE
Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline and profession that emphasizes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, under the hypothesis that these disorders affect general health via the nervous system. It is generally categorized as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), a characterization that many chiropractors reject. Although chiropractors have many attributes of primary care providers, chiropractic has more of the attributes of a medical specialty like dentistry or podiatry. The main chiropractic treatment technique involves manual therapy, including manipulation of the spine, other joints, as well as soft tissue therapies. Treatment also includes at home exercises, along with health and lifestyle counselling. Indications for chiropractic care include neck and back pain, chronic muscle pain and inflammation, fibromyalgia, nerve entrapment, decreased spinal range motion, pseudo-sciatica, chronic occipital or tension headaches, traumatic torticollis, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, and conditions where narcotic pain relievers are of little to no benefit. We are happy to assess your condition and recommend the best treatment plan for you. |
NATUROPATHY
Naturopathy is a system of therapy based on preventative care. It uses heat, water, light, air, and massage as primary therapies for the disease. Some naturopaths use no medications, while others use pharmaceutical or herbal medicine. Some recommend herbal remedies only. A few who are licensed to prescribe may recommend pharmaceuticals in those cases where they feel their use is warranted. As practiced today, naturopathic medicine integrates traditional natural therapeutics - including botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, homeopathy, acupuncture, traditional oriental medicine, hydrotherapy, and naturopathic manipulative therapy - with modern scientific medical diagnostic science and standards of care. The medical research base of naturopathic practice consists of empirical documentation of treatments using case history observations, medical records, and summaries of practitioners' clinical experiences. |
OSTEOPATHY
Osteopathy is a type of complementary and alternative medicine. Its practitioners claim that the wellbeing of an individual depends on their bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue functioning smoothly together. Osteopaths receive special training in the musculoskeletal system. They believe that their treatments, which primarily consist of moving, stretching and massaging a person's muscles and joints, help allow the body to heal itself. There are four osteopathic principles that guide this practice:

FOOT ORTHOTICS
We offer custom made foot orthotics as an important part of our wide-ranging rehabilitative services. They are available to our patients independently or part of a treatment program. Some of the benefits of foot orthotics include reducing muscle and tendon strains, improving posture, increasing circulation, and reducing fatigue. Orthotics can also help prevent foot disorders such as bunions, calluses, and flat feet. It can also provide pain relief for plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, and shin splits. COMPRESSION ST0CKINGS There are two types of Compression stockings: Gradient and anti-embolism. Gradient compression stockings are designed to remedy impaired "Musculovenous pump" performance due to incompetent leg vein valves. They are woven in such a way that the compression level lessens towards the top of the hose. Doctors will typically recommend these stockings for those who are prone to getting blood clots, edema, and blood pooling in the legs and feet from prolonged periods of sitting or inactivity. Anti-embolism compression stockings are also referred to as TED (Thrombo Embolic Deterrent) hose. They are used to support the venous and lymphatic systems of the leg. Unlike gradient compression stockings, anti-embolism hose deliver an equally distributed amount of compression at the ankle and up the leg. This compression, when combined with the muscle pump effect of the calf, aids in circulating blood and lymph fluid through the legs (in non-ambulatory patients). |
